We gather and use certain information about individuals in order to provide products and services via our online and overseas internships and to enable certain functions on this website.

 

We also collect information to better understand how visitors use this website and to present timely, relevant information to them.

 

The majority of PII comes from our program participants (and members of their families), employees and suppliers, alumni, friends, and people who apply to be program participants or employees. 

 

What data we gather

 

Prior to participating in one of our programs, we collect information when you complete our online form. 

 

We may collect the following information when you apply or request more information:

 

  • Name and year of graduation
  • Contact information (including email address)
  • Demographic information, such as zip code, preferences, and interests
  • Website usage data
  • Other information relevant to client queries

 

Once you confirm your place on the Start Me Up program with a deposit, we will collect additional information, this could include passport information, emergency contact information, medical conditions, allergies, or other information that may impact your ability to participate in the placement.

 

We may obtain further information about you during the internship program. For example, in cases where you were involved in an incident on the program.

For program participants 

 

We may also collect PII from participants’ parents or guardians as emergency contacts if we need to update them on a participant’s condition while on one of our overseas programs.

Medical information is requested from participants to help us help you manage any conditions you may have during the program. Confidential medical information will only be used for this purpose and will be kept in a secure location and only shared with personnel who need to have it for this purpose. Medical information is deleted on completion of your program.

Start Me Up may disclose PII and other information in the following ways

We may also share information when necessary to perform our contract. This includes sharing your PII with host organizations in order to source you an internship placement. 

 

We use third parties who have entered into a contract with Start Me Up to support the administration of our operations, this could include accommodation providers, and transport companies. In such cases, we share information with third parties and operate under appropriate safeguards to prevent unauthorized disclosure.

 

University Partners

 

If an individual is a student at one of our partner universities, we may need to share information with the university in order to comply with our contract with the university. In these cases, we share information with university partners subject to the imposition of appropriate safeguards to prevent unauthorized disclosure.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect PII. We store data in secure industry-leading cloud-based software that is ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certified for Applications, Systems, People, Technology, and  Processes

 

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information when you enter, submit, or access your personal information. 

 

Your private financial information (credit cards, bank accounts) are not stored on our servers. Our invoicing software is certified as compliant with ISO/IEC 27001:2013 which is globally recognized as the premier information security management system (ISMS) standard. It complies with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).  We use a payment gateway that has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry.
