Lauri has just graduated from the University of Glasgow with a degree in Business Management and Classical Civilisation. She completed a product design internship for a sustainable furniture startup as part of Start Me Up’s Startup Internship Program, in Bali.
“I decided to join the Start Me Up’s Internship program because I wanted to be able to work, gain experience and see a beautiful part of the world.”
What is the project your working on?
“I’m interning for a company that sells their sustainable furniture on Amazon. My role is to help design the table, market research, writing up the listings and help with storyboarding.”
How are you finding working in Bali?
“I’ve found working remotely can be quite challenging at times, but it’s an area I feel is really important to develop as work is going that way (traveling and working).
I have also loved getting involved in events in the co-working spaces, putting myself out there and meeting new people.”
Have you been to any co-working events that have stood out to you?
“I loved going to the Lady Boss event at the co-working space. I got to hear about women from a variety of backgrounds with companies at a variety of stages. You never know who you’re going to meet, I love that.”
How are you finding Start Me Up’s ideation workshops?
“I never knew how many tools you can use to help you design webpages, etc, and so even if you are a complete technophobe you can learn how to create a business. I’ve been using all these websites I didn’t know existed, so the workshop has been great.”
Any advice to future interns?
“If you’re thinking about coming to Bali to intern, just go for it. It’s something that is nerve-wracking but when you get here everything falls into place, you meet like-minded people and you can advance your experience and career.”
